Sunday 2 May 2021: Beckenham Girls Rugby attended a mini-tournament hosted by Old Colfeians, the first competitive fixture of the season, with strong teams fielded across all three age groups.

The U18 Girls, debuting the vivid pink kit, came up against a combined Old Colfeians and Sevenoaks side. After some touch rugby to warm up, we had the opportunity to play some full 15-a-side rugby under the new adapted contact rules in a shortened game. Compared to our previous matches against Colfes (in the 2019-20 season), the U18 girls put in a hugely improved showing, particularly in defence, with a close-fought game ending with a narrow Colfes win. Congratulations to Blessing, Ivanna, Megan and Oneli in making their competitive debuts for Beckenham, and to Sasha and Funto for impressing the Kent selectors sufficiently to be added to the Kent County training squad!

For many of the U15 Girls this was their first competitive fixture ever, let alone at U15 level. They played a 10-a-s-de round-robin tournament against teams from Old Colfeians, Sevenoaks and Blackheath, playing under the adapted contact rules. The U15s showed some great heart and character, with strong carries and fierce defence of their line - they did the Beckenham shirt proud. Congratulations to Jayra, Isabel, Ruby M, Olivia, Ava and Georgia on their debut games!

At U13 level, the tournament was held in the Ready4Rugby format, with Beckenham U13 Girls also coming up against teams from Old Colfeians, Sevenoaks and Blackheath. The U13 girls have a strong squad, with a core of girls who have made the transition from mini rugby into their first junior fixture joined by the older U13 girls, plus Beckenham debuts for Erin and Orla. The U13 girls left the competition undefeated, winning three games and drawing one - congratulations girls!
