Girls Rugby

On Sunday 15th April, Beckenham hosted a girls rugby, 7,s event inviting 7 other local clubs. Also numbers were limited, Beckenham fielded a team at U13, U15, and U18, with the help of others, and several other clubs, including Westcombe park and Old Alleyians were also able to field their own teams

The festival was based friendly competition, where performance was the key, not results. Without doubt, it was clear Beckenham players learned a huge amount about ruby and about themselves, as their performances improved during the day. The U13, produced some special rugby, especially when supported by Westombe park, as there more experienced players, helped the Beckenham girls grow in confidence.

At u15, the 6 Beckenham girls supported by a guest player, had a daunting start to the day against Thurock and Aylsford, 2 very strong teams. There resolve though increased with every game and it was not long before the girls scored their first try and eventually there fist victory. The improvement throughout the days 6 games was immense.

At U18, we had 4 U18 girls partnering with Old Alleyians and Seven Oaks and they won 2 game two trys to one and drew one game, in competitive 7,s games on a full sized pitch, which was a first experience for many.

As we these events, its a team effort and a huge thanks to all the Refs who supported this event, Laura, Naomi and Lorraine, who managed the teams, AD who helped with the Under 18s, and the parents of the girls, who helped get players to pitches. Great team effort. Lots for photos on the event were taken by Laura Le Warn, and these will be uploaded soon.
