Beckenham rugby club is proud to have O2e as a partner charity. Afterall some of its founders, including Paul Slattery, were ex players of our 1XV.

Many have got involved through BRFC or our affiliated cycling club BRC. Whichever route, people raise money for amazing causes, by pushing themselves personally. Ordinary 2 extraordinary. We encourage all members to get involved, as this amazing charity does so much great work.

Every year Kev Tuohy organises an epic cycle ride and there are still places on offer. Everyone has a great time, so consider signing up. More information, as well as a sign up form can be found at
https://o2e.org/kevs-big-bike-ride/. We have also provided more details below. Do consider signing up - you will not regret it - although your bum might (for a day or two afterwards anyway :-) ).

Big Kev’s Ride
France – Tour du Nord
11th – 15th Sept 2024

Overview
O2e’s 16th annual cycling challenge is a two and a half-day ride from Dunkirk to one of Northern France’s most beautiful seaside resorts – Le Touquet Paris-Plage.
Le Touquet is an elegant coastal town renowned for its pretty architecture, wooded avenues, golf courses and equestrian facilities. A truly lovely location to complete your challenge.

As with 2023’s ride we are once again offering multiple distances. So, if you are not advanced enough to cover 100 miles a day, you will have the option of picking a shorter route of approximately 60 miles.

The event is entirely funded by the rider entry fee and 100% of sponsorship raised goes to the charities

Entry fee: £495 (based on shared hotel room)

Current plans (subject to change until final)
Wednesday
Meet at Dover bright and early to catch the 10:00am ferry to Dunkirk. Upon arrival at port, we’ll saddle up and cycle to the pretty town of Lille.

Thursday
Options of two distances to the cathedral city of Amiens.

Friday
Options of two distances to arrive in Le Touquet.

Saturday
You’ll have the chance for a well-deserved lie-in and still have time to take in the delights of he seaside before re-joining the group for the not-to-be-missed After Party hosted by the legendary Kev and Slatts. You will enjoy the unique camaraderie of celebrating your personal success of achieving the distance of your choice with some of the best people on the planet and you will all have just raised a bunch of cash for our deserving causes.

All good things come to an end and sadly this is that time. Bikes go on specialist bike transport whilst we take a coach back to Dover/London

What We Expect (of You)
The only reason we do this is to raise money for terminally ill and disabled children. Many “charity” bike rides are outsourced to companies and require a minimum sponsorship of 3 to 4 times our entry fee, yet less than half often goes to the charity.

O2e is different – everything is done by volunteers and we cover our own costs. That way every single £ raised in sponsorship goes to the amazing charities we support. Please realise though that volunteers doesn’t equal little effort – this event takes many months of hard work from several people to plan and relies on a huge team of very generous volunteers to donate vehicles/time/fuel in order to run it.

If you raise at least as much as the entry fee in sponsorship, it makes it all worthwhile. Help with setting up sponsorship via Just Giving, Virgin Money, employer match funding etc. is available.

Entry
The trip is run “at cost” and this year that’s £495 per rider (based on a shared hotel room).
A minimum deposit of £200 is required to secure your space, followed by the balance by the end of June at the very latest.
Please note we require your payments to be able to pay the hotels, ferries and transport company in advance so prompt payment for the event is essential.

………so don’t delay and get signed up. Chat to friends, family & colleagues and get them signed up too.

Let’s make 2024 the BIGGEST fundraising Kev’s Big Bike Ride yet!!!!!!!!!

Please note, all rooms are shared and you are required to arrange your own insurance.
