Match Day Report by Alex Marshall

Despite a very early, very wet, 9.00am kick off, two Beckenham teams made up mainly of our Colts forwards made our way to Charlton Park RFC to compete against the best in Kent for silverware in the U18’s Kent 7’s.

After the group stages both Beckenham teams were drawn to compete in the Bowl section of the tournament.

Becks A team were first to play, drawn against local rivals Old Elthamians, edging this quarter final by 7-5.

This meant a potential semi final against Becks B team but this dream semi was denied by a refereeing error, who failed to account for all of Becks B’s conversions which meant Deal eliminated our B’s team 19-17. Despite our polite objections the result stood, which was a tough one to take however the chance for revenge was immediate and our A team quickly dispatched Deal in the semi to set up a final against Darfordians, who had beaten Whitstable and Ashford in their section to reach the final.

As expected the final was a tough game, as our boys team had already played 5 exhausting, fast paced, hard hitting games, but our boys did the Blue and Gold shirt proud playing some outstanding running rugby.

Beckenham dominated the game but late pressure for Dartfordians narrowed the final score but as expected our Colts dug in, set a blue and gold wall and won the final. 29-22.

Special mention for Adam Shelly who man of the match in the final and also played across both teams covering injured players.

Congratulations to all who played especially our U18’ boys Dej, Dan, Alex, Jack, Tom, Olli and Kieron who finished their Colts career with some well earned silverware.
