Here are some answers to some frequently asked questions regarding Womens rugby at Beckenham Rugby Club.

What age range?
The Ladies team is 18 plus (currently up to 40s). We also have under 18, under 15 and under 13s girls teams.

I’ve never played before – can I join?
YES! We’re always delighted when someone new takes an interest in rugby.

I’m not very fit – can I join?
YES! Rugby is a sport for people of all builds so come along and see where you fit in.

Do you play full contact?
Yes. We start our preseason slowly so everyone can get to a similar level of fitness, confidence and skill.

Who coaches you?
Currently Phil, he was working as a coach for the RFU but has recently started running a pub near Twickenham Stadium (very handy).

What level do you play at?
Currently Championship SE2, alongside Blackheath and OA Saints to name a couple. There are currently 7 teams in our league so that’s at least 12 games to look forward to.

Where and when do you train?
July to June (colder months) Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7.30pm at the club – Balmoral Avenue BR3 3RD.

Where and when do you play?
Fixtures are Sunday afternoons and are either at our club or the oppositions. This can be as far away as the coast or North London. Transport is usually provided.

Do I need to attend every training session?
No, we have players with plenty of other commitments like childcare and shift work so we are very understanding.

What do I need to bring?
Generally any clothing that you don’t mind getting muddy in! Dress for the weather as we train outside. In the summer bring bug spray and always bring water. In the summer trainers are ok to train in but moulded boots are better (as you don’t slip), in the winter metal studded boots are advised.

How much does it cost?
Playing membership is £100 for the year, and match fees are £6 per game (a reduced rate is available for students and those who are unemployed) So much cheaper than a gym and a lot more fun! You don’t have to pay straight away until you are sure rugby is for you.

Do you have much of a social aspect?
YES! We have a tour every year, last year it was Croatia this year Edinburgh. We are often out and about in Patricks bar in Beckenham, off to Thorpe Park or watching rugby at Twickenham. Even when our ladies step back from playing they are still around for the socials.
