Phil, Lamarr and Ben do Beckenham Proud in Jamaica

Phil Davis has been in Jamaica with an U19 Jamaican team, formed ahead of this International. He, ably supported in coaching by Beckenham player Lamarr Sinclair, took the squad all the way to the final, in which the lost out to the USA. The team included Ben Hatfield who, despite carrying an injury, had played well throughout the tournament. I think we will all agree that these players and coaches showed the very best BRFC spirit and there will be plenty more to come!

Some comment from Phil ‘the team was heavily depleted with injury and suspension, but a team of 16-18 year olds fronted up against a well-drilled USA side who were all in their freshman year at college and aspiring towards contracts in the new MLR, America’s pro league.

The scoreline was disappointing but this is the highest placing Jamaica have ever achieved in 15s, the energy and commitment was incredible. Ben Hatfield was also awarded ‘MVP’ by the USA Head Coach.

We will be back next year with a more experienced side to go one better but i’m very proud of our first attempt and everything we achieved.
