t is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Graham Murray, who tragically lost his life, on 20th February, following a road traffic accident. He was 34 years of age.
Graham was a beloved husband to Ais, devoted father to Tadhg, and excited about the forthcoming birth of their second child. He was also a cherished son, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, friend and teammate to so many and a very proud Irishman! From the club of his childhood, Douglas Rugby Club Cork, Ireland, to being the proud player and supporter of Munster and Beckenham rugby clubs.
Most recently Graham was the esteemed captain of Beckenham RFC 2XV, but also longtime critical member of the 1XV squad. He had nearly 150 caps, including the 1XV league winning sides in 2018/19 and 2021/22, as well as being a driving force behind the 2XV being promoted last season. Apart from his amazing smile and generous spirit, Graham was proud to be coined the most unpredictable player due to his running, offloading and kicking game and providing the club the worst excuse to be late for training - concrete Tuesdays.
Graham’s loss leaves a profound void in the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and rugby community.
There will be a memorial service at St Edmund’s Church, Village Way, Beckenham at 2.30pm, and after at Beckenham Rugby Club from 3:30pm on Sunday 23rd February.
