Saturday 31st August
We wanted to take the opportunity to share our deepest condolences with the family of Sam Winter who was taken far too soon. He was a genuine, kind-hearted man who always had the best interests of all the ladies in his mind during his time with us as physio. We started the game with a minutes silence to remember Sam, rest in peace.
After a morning of disappointment, finding out that the 1st team’s opposition had to pull out of the fixture due to illnesses, the 2nd team players were ready and raring to go for a good test against Sevenoaks Ladies.
Even though a good chunk of the team were playing their first ever game of rugby, each and every player played their hearts out and it was an amazing watch.
After a contest of possession, and some solid defence from both teams, the first score arrived for Beckenham about 20 minutes in. With Hooker, ANNA GILMORE smashing over the tryline. After a powerful linebreak from JAS PALMER, an offload to debutant CERYS LAWRENCE saw her beat a few more defenders before going to the right of the sticks for the 3rd try of the match. Not long after, SUSIE GROVES, managed to get over the line which only added to her immense performance on the day. The first half finished 15-0 to the ladies in Blue and Gold.
2 minutes into the second half, REMMIE GENTRY, also making her debut for the club, scored under the posts after weaving in and out of multiple defenders. With ‘DAVE’ kicking the extras to make it 22-0.
Sevenoaks topped off a strong performance with a late try to end the match 22-5. A great game from both teams and enjoyed by the supporters.
Well done to all the try scorers for their first points for the club and congratulations to ABBI OMISORE, SARAH HARPER, MARIA DELLOW, DANIELLE BURNAGE on their first game of rugby ever!
More congratulations to MADDIE SMITH, CAITLIN OSBORNE, CERYS LAWRENCE, REMMIE GENTRY and BETTY THOMAS on making their debuts in the mighty Blue and Gold. They all certainly impressed and can’t wait to see them representing Beckenham again soon.
We look forward to Sunday 15th of September where we have two fixtures at Home for Ladies Day. The 1st XV will take on Bath Ladies and the 2nd XV will look to beat Lordswood Valkyries in the first matches of their respective leagues.
