Beckenham hosted Kent as part of the trial process for this season's Kent U20 campaign. A strong Kent side ran out winners 28-20 in a match that showed the strength and depth in Kent at this age group. The big midweek crowd were treated to a skilled , high paced physical game on a crisp night under lights.
Given both squads had 25+ players who came from all over SE England and that the match was divided into 2x25 plus 1 x 15 minute periods, they played with remarkable cohesion. This was helped by the trio of top class officials organised by Dave Broadwell, who controlled the game so that it did not develop into the frenzy often seen in trial games.
As for a match report itself, that would be difficult. Suffice to say Kent had the edge physically, but the Beckenham squad, often matching them up front, with a very good set of backs scored some spectacular tries - (several Beckenham players have a good chance of making the final Kent squad).
The Head Coaches of Kent & Beckenham, Taff Gwilliam & Dan Leek were impressed with the standard of play and both took away many plus points. The crowd seemed to enjoy the Beckenham hospitality and a high quality game under lights.
Finally, big thanks to Hans Laud-Andersen and Aaron Adams who put in a load of effort to ensure we put out a strong team and had a big crowd to make this such a good occasion.
