On a cold and wet Sunday morning a new fixture against new boys Gillingham Anchorians took place after a 45 minute drive down into North East Kent. After we all finally found each other we managed to get a shortish warm up session started, a quick sort out of positions and we were away. With pitch conditions heavy this was always going to be a bit of a slog. The game had been broken up into three periods to allow both teams to make plenty of changes to the teams. After a few minutes to settle down we started to find our feet, with Obi breaking off the back of the scrum for his 1st try of the day, then Greg stepped up to make his 1st conversion of the day. After a few phases of play Obi then grabbed another two trys before the end of the 1st period. In the second period some neat work between Josh & Archie allowed Archie to run home a try. But we didn't have it all our own way. With a hole in our back line that most of the Anchorians team could run through they took the kind offer and done just that. With lots of changes being made to the team, so everyone had game time, this seemed to unsteady the side, but old guard of Tom & Shay kept the ship steady.
With another try from Obi and one for Josh the day was almost over. With a late injury for Obi & Josh, Anchorians made the most of this by driving straight at our line with strong conviction and managed to score late on and convert.
This was great performance from both teams in heavy conditions, well done to both teams.
