First game vs Old Beccehamians
From the whistle the boys showed what they are really made of. Ruck after ruck tackle after tackle the boys made ground with Miles getting the 1st try. Great passing saw Scott get the 2nd, while Zeus broke through diving for a try, the ground shook, unfortunately Zeus saw a badly marked line and the try was ruled out (bad luck Zeus). A missed tackle saw OB's nick a try just before half time. We led 2 - 1 at half time after playing uphill in the first half. The omens looked good for the second period and the runes were right!
A couple of changes saw Rocco and Pinky come on for Zeus and Zee German. Running downhill it was full throttle stuff and Rocco powered through to see the game finish 3-1. Our best wishes to George at OB's who was injured, left in an ambulance (pretty quickly) and ended up at home later on that day to recuperate and relax.
Second game vs Old Colfeians
All that can be said about this game was it was a bad result. They coped better with the delay than us. Scored 2 breakaway tries from an impressive runner. No need for the scoring theatrics, it's only a game, not the RWC.
Third game vs Park House
Again some good skills on show, passing down the line and rucking all much better in this match. Park House have some good female players and we did well to keep them from scoring. Apollo ran two tries in. Pinky burst through and scored with a player hanging off him, until we all realised he repeated Zeus' earlier mistake! Thankfully Sniper was in close support, scooped the ball up and bagged himself the easiest try he will ever score! We were in stitches on the sidelines but that only spurred Pinky on to get his try properly. Halftime 4 - 0. Second half saw Park House nab a couple of tries to bring on a nervous couple of minutes but Cameron & Rocco replied. Zee German came in handy and held up a Park House player to deny them the third try at the final whistle to keep it at 6 - 2 to the Navy & Old Gold!
Fourth game vs Westcombe Park
This was everything you could have wished for as a coach. Great running, brilliant passing to stretch Combe and better defence. We ran 5 tries in past a tiring Combe. Combe replied in the second half with a well worked try of their own. Judging by the skill on show, it was a travesty that it was their only try of the day. The boys responded with another 3 tries and after a nod to carry on playing from the Combe coach, Rocco added the ninth and final try of the day.
Great performances all round, the lads should be proud of themselves and are well equipped, we hope, for the Kent Cup preliminary round next week.
By virtue of the loss to Old Colfeians, we finished second in the table. A thoroughly enjoyable day for all concerned.
Finally, we had an opportunity to make a presentation to a young referee who suffered some needless abuse the last time we saw him. Commendable stuff from one so young. He has a bright future if he chooses to keep up the reffing, don't forget where you read it first!
