U9 Report

I'm pleased to report we had a fantastic day of rugby today. Each and every one of the squad put in some outstanding effort and courage. That is of course with the exception of Henry Gore, who never had the opportunity to show off his skills. He was unfortunately wiped out during a freak accident by our very own Coach Clumsy (as advised below) before the start of the first match. We really hope Henry is fit and well and ready for next week.

The squad all arrived early which was great for us to prepare and warm up. It really makes a difference being there soon after 9am. We were in Pool C playing Edenbridge, Whitgiftians, Sevenoaks & Westcombe Park.

Although we were warmed up and focussed, it took the team a little too long to get into gear and we lost to Edenbridge 6-3. The attacking was good, but most of the team were hesitant to put in the tackles allowing for the opponents to run in too many tries. We also forgot some of the basics and handed over possession due to running into touch or knocking on.

Colin initiated some tackling practice between games and they came out fighting against the Whitgiftians. They put in some great tackles and ran in some excellent tries, with Beckenham winning 7-5.

The third match was Sevenoaks and our team continued to improve, but Sevenoaks just nudged ahead winning 7-5.

All players were a little tired as we played the final match against Westcombe Park, and they put in some fantastic spirit and excellent tackles. Unfortunately the score didn't reflect the performance as we lost about 5-3.

Our team's later matches were incomparable to the start of the day. Tackling improved dramatically with Ruben, Arthur Archie & Dominic standing out as most keen to run around the park and take down the opposition, although everyone played their part. All players showed good handling skills and strong running, with tries from every player from what I can remember.

I was especially impressed with the improvement from the less known players like Arthur, Leo & Ben. I remember Leo making a great run to get his try.

Ted, Archie, Charlie and Biodun put in some cracking tackles, support play and straight running. I think they all got over the line at some stage.

It was great to watch and well done to all, they should be very proud!
