U8s field 4 sides for the New Year Cup

We hosted Blackheath and Medway in an action packed morning at Balmoral Avenue.

The Bears with Dexter, Tom, Aiden, Henry, Leo M, Caius and Charlie performed really well alongside the undefeated Bobcats with Arnie, James R, Leo R, Chrissy, Thomas, James H and Phoenix. The Bobcats edged it in the head to head game and ran in a few tries in the others.

The Bobcats won the Gold side of the U8 games with the other teams all tied on the same scoring methodology: honesty, discipline, work rate and humility. Blackheath got a bonus point for their defensive efforts in turning the ball against Medway after 7 consecutive tags.

Beckenham managed to field an (almost) all female team in the other side of the draw with Lulu, Izzy, Amber, Eleanor, Rebecca & Adam starting for the Broncos while Freddie, Wilf, Ethan, Toby, Oscar, Ben and Sean worked hard to grab a last minute try for the Bulls in a 5-5 head to head affair. Medway ended up winning their group after a chain of 7 tags brought a turnover against the Bulls to give them a bonus point work rate win after they, Blackheath and the Broncos ended up tied on points at the end of play.

All in all, a great start to the year with plenty of positives. The countdown to full contact rugby is well and truly on.
