First up was a well drilled and pacey Sidcup team whom we had beaten in the final of the last festival. They were gunning for us straight out of the starting blocks. They really wanted that Beckenham scalp badly! Unfortunately, this time around the referee wasn't seeing things our way and although we fought valiantly with superb tries from Kapene and Josh, we went down fighting 6 tries to 4.

Next up were those varmints out of the Bromley Club. A really tight and good game which we somehow eventually managed to win 7 tries to 6. I had it as 6 - 6 but the referee must have been right. Real team effort this one with tries from Steven, Kapene, Josh, Patrick and Aaron.

Third up were the honourable young yeomen of Westcombe Park. The boys we really into their stride by now and were ignoring the disastrous conditions. Fierce tagging and excellent tries scored by Kapene, Theo, Connor and Marcus resulted in a 6 - 5 victory.

Next side up were our hosts and local rivals, Old Beccehamians. Weather conditions were absolutely atrocious by now and it was becoming unbearable for everybody at the ground. A close fought battle with tries from Kapene and Josh, resulted in a 4 - 4 draw and it seemed that honours were rightfully shared on this occasion.

It must be said that throughout all four of these games there had been some tremendous defence work. Everyone chased the opposition down with real fervour, which yet again meant the attacking side had nowhere to go, errors were forced and turnover was achieved. I have to mention particular prowess in tagging can be credited to Marcus for his uncanny ability to tag someone, give the tag back and tag the next one with hardly moving off the spot. Also, Connor deserves a mention for his spectacular dive tagging which also proved to be extremely effective!

We had already lost Jemima, who was clearly feeling unwell, Patrick, who's little sister just couldn't take anymore of the weather and we now had to wait for at least another 30 minutes for our next match. To make matters worse, our brethren in the U8s who had been protecting us from the lashing rain with their huge tent, (for which we are eternally grateful and only cost us one ball), were packing up and leaving. Enough was enough, a quick vote and an even quicker discussion with the officials and that was it. We handed in our papers and without further ado headed home for a warm cup of cocoa and a box of tissues. Medals were awarded to those still present, so anyone who left without a medal, come and see me next time.

Overall we had played 4, won 2, drawn 1 and lost 1. We should have played another pool match and potentially the final, so it is not possible to say where we finished, but I have to say that everyone performed like champions on what was a truly miserable day for rugby.

Well done everyone, let's hope for better weather next Sunday in Dover!
