West kent Divas keep another clean sheet beating a spirited Hitchin team who fought all through the game

On a beautiful sunny day at Beckemham rugby club, the West Kent Divas, created there own storm, against a spirited Hitching team to keep another clean sheet. Due to half term Hitchin were only able to field 10 players so it was a reduce team that started the match.

Starting for WKD were Cerys, Francheks, Hannah, Ella Olivia, Sammy, Ceri, Alice, Sophie and Megan, with Fiona, Luana and Ellie substitutes, and Morgan standing down to protect an injured foot. A policy of rotating substitutes at 12 ½ minute intervals ensured every player played over ¾ of a game and got to play in a number of positions. Sophie, Alice and luana, all experienced game time in the forwards, while Fiona and Ella, had game time as centres.

The game was played in a great spirit and straight from the off, WKD looked to move the ball along the line, avoiding contact. On occasions when tackles were made, WKD support players, protected the ball, before it was re distributed again. The first try was scored by Alice Burtonshaw, following a flowing movement over the hole pitch incorporating most players. Her second try was following a perfect cutting line, on to a flat pass from Ceri. On a blustery day, knock on’s and dropped balls occurred as WKD played a high tempo game. The scrums were very competitive but each time Hitchin hooked the ball, there Scrum ½ was pressurised impeccably by Sammy. Sammy also managed link well when ball was presented.

4 Trys were scored by Megan Brown, 3 finishing of great team movement and one an individual effort, the whole length of the pitch from ball secured from a defensive line out, practically on our own try line.

2 Trys were also scored by Ceri Edwards, who powerfully completed off team movements.

During the Match, WKD, had the loins share of the possession, however Hitchin ran hard whenever they could. Of special note were the tackles by Alice Burtonshaw, who cut them down and drove them back. However on this occasion, when so many players played outstandingly, the star play award this week goes to Sammy, who played very well, linking the forwards and back and challenged effectively around the scum.
