WKD Girls win 42 - 0 against Heartford

Today's game was hosted by old Alleynians who made us all very welcome. We were expecting a reduced numbers team from Hertford but they turned up with 10 girls clustering with Harlow so it was game on. The match warm up was run by Mark Freeman assisted by Graham and Dominic who obviously did a great job as WKD were 5 nil up within 3 minutes following a flowing passage of play, involving most of the team, over 1/2 the pitch, which Morgan finished off charging through the remaining defence to score the first of her 4 tries. This was without Ella who arrived just after KO as Dave misread the start time !

Hertford put up some superb defence against the WKD free running game. From a scrum, a short break by Ceri, released Freddie who timed her run perfectly, to scythe through the defence, but the cover defence was to quick catching her 5 meters short of the line. However superb support play retained possession and after several phases of play, Morgan was able to power over. The Tackle injured Freddie's knee so Ella took her place.

The third try was scored by Alice again followed flowing team play, utilising the whole of the field, where WKD demonstrated excellent ball retention and structure to keep the ball alive. The final pass was delivered by Fiona, who straightened to draw the last defender, allowing Alice a clear run to the corner. Shortly after Alice also took a knock and came off for a while with Franchesca being called up into the forwards' with Morgan relocating to the backs. The revised formation had no impact on the style, and another team effort, possible the best team effort of the game saw the ball moved from the forwards along the line for Sophie to run in and score.

Luckily our super subs kept up the fast pace, but also defended stoically. Hartford made what looked like a clear break down the left wing, but never say die Cerys chased her down and although the Hearts player had crossed the line, she could not place the ball down as cerys held her up until the cavalry arrived. The final few minutes of the half were dominated by Hartford, but they were unable to brake through. 22 nil at half time was a good lead, but it was also a very competitive match.

Second half continued in much the same way, fast flowing rugby, good presentation with effective clearing out. Added to this off loads, switches, looping and driving mauls, the Divas were unstoppable, and trys followed for Alice, Morgan twice more and finally Ceri, who has scored in the last minute of her last 3 games, spooky.

Unfortunately Ceri had the wrong boots on today and only managed one conversion but her general bossing of the game was excellent and led the team to a bonus point win to top the league.

Cerys also had a very mature game never giving up and was generally in the right place at the right time doing all the right stuff. Added to this her support play was excellent throughout the game and she carried the ball a number of occasions.

Also of note again, were Ella and Fiona who pop up as forwards or backs, doing excellent work either running hard, linking, or clearing out the opposition.

On this occasion though Morgan was named "Player of the match" by the coaches for her almost unstoppable direct running for the whole game
