Another hard day at the office for Beckenham U18 Girls in their debut league season, but they keep fighting to the end

Sunday 22 September saw Beckenham U18 Girls welcome Dartfordians to Balmoral Avenue for the first home game of the season, as we continue our first season as a standalone U18 team.

The rain was coming down - great conditions for the forwards, less so for the spectators... Dartfordians kindly loaned players to us so we could play a 12-a-side fixture. It was clear from the outset that Dartfordians were the stronger side, with some particularly fast girls out wide on the wings, running in several tries in the first half.

Beckenham regrouped over half time and redoubled their defensive efforts for the second half, with fullback Madi Charles making tackle after tackle, singlehandedly keeping the scoreline as respectable as she could. The whole team fought hard, the heads never went down. Right in the final minutes of the game, a breakaway run from a loaned Darts player saw her gain the length of the field, popping up the ball in the tackle to Madi, running a brilliant support line, who dived over the line between the posts to give Beckenham the final try of the game, ably converted by prop-kicker Charlie Wright.

Congratulations to Dartfordians on an impressive win, and kudos to the Beckenham team for their fighting spirit as they continue to improve week after week.

Our next fixture will see us teaming up with Old Alleynians U18s in the National Cup - let's train hard for that!
